Making Kites

The winds of March begin to blow,
And it is time for kites, you know.
Here’s the way I make my kite,
Watch and help me do it right.
I cross two sticks so thin and long,
     Tied together good and strong.
A string I fasten to each end,
And across the middle to make it bend.
I measure and cut the paper straight,
And glue along the edge and wait.
A ball of string to hold my kite,
When it sails almost out of sight.
And here’s my kite all ready to go,
Please March wind begin to blow!

Five Little Crayons

Five little crayons colored a scene.
Yellow, blue, orange, red and green.
“Look,” said Yellow, “My sun is bright!”
Blue said, “Great! My river’s just right”
Orange said, “Flowers! I’ll draw something new”
Red said, “Great, I’ll add some too!”
“Sigh,” said Green, “I’m tired of trees,
And grass and bushes and tiny leaves. I
Think I’ll draw a big green cloud!”
“A big green cloud should be allowed!”
The crayons all smiled and didn’t think twice.
A big green cloud sounded rather nice!

How To Make Fairy Bread

Ingredients

□ Sliced fresh white bread
Butter slightly softened by keeping at room temperature for a short time
 100s and 1000s* or sprinkles

Implements

 Plate
 Spreader or butter knife

Instructions
1. Spread softened butter on bread.
2. Pour 100s and 1000s* or sprinkles onto plate.
3. Gently press buttered side of bread into them.
4. Cut Fairy Bread into triangles if desired.
5. Serve.

*100s and 1000s are round, ball-shaped sprinkles.

Make Fairy Bread no more than a couple of hours before serving to ensure bread remains fresh.

Leaving the crusts on bread will make it easier for people to handle, and it will also be easier to make.

Bread slices can be shaped into circles, hearts, trees, stars, and more using cookie cutters.

Margarine, peanut butter, cream cheese, sour cream, Greek yogurt, and other spreadables can be tried in place of dairy butter.

Fairy Bread originated in the Australian island state of Tasmania, and has become  a traditional birthday party treat.

We have not been able to confirm if the knowledge of how to make Fairy Bread was a gift from the fairies.

Fairy Bread

Come up here, O dusty feet!
Here is fairy bread to eat.
Here in my retiring room,
     Children, you may dine
On the golden smell of broom
     And the shade of pine;
And when you have eaten well,
     Fairy stories hear and tell.

No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

No oven is needed to make these cookies - so why not ‘no-bake’ some right now?

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

Ingredients
□ 2 cups granulated sugar
□ 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
□ 1 stick or 1/4 cup or 4 ounces butter
□ 1/2 cup milk
□ 1 tablespoon vanilla flavoring or vanilla extract
□ 1 cup smooth or crunchy peanut butter
□ 3 cups regular rolled oats or old-fashioned oatmeal or quick-cooking oatmeal
□ waxed paper or lightly greased cookie sheet

Directions
1. Combine the sugar, cocoa, butter, and milk in a heavy saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium heat for 1 minute.
2. Remove from heat and add the vanilla, peanut butter, and oatmeal.
3. Working quickly, drop the mixture by the teaspoonful onto waxed paper.
4. Allow the cookies to completely cool and harden before removing them from the waxed paper.

The cookie mixture can be measured with one teaspoon, and a second teaspoon can be used to push the mixture out of the first teaspoon and onto the waxed paper. The recipe can be adjusted: if the cookies come out too thin or too thick, try changing the amount of oats; experiment by adding in small amounts of different ingredients such as chopped nuts or shredded coconut.

□ Root beer soft drink

Instructions

3. Serve.

Add more mugs and spoons and plastic drinking straws, plus napkins, and then invite people, to make a root beer float social.

Root beer is a carbonated soft drink containing artificial sassafras flavoring, and does not contain sassafras or beer. It is widely sold under the Shasta, A & W, Mug, Hires, and other brand names, particularly in North America, but is spreading in popularity and availability to other regions. Where root beer is not available, substituting other carbonated soft drinks can be attempted.

Guessing Game

Players
□ 3 or more people.

Items Needed
□ Any small objects carried on a person or found nearby that can be concealed inside a person’s closed hand.

Put your hand into your pocket, purse, or bag. Completely surround an object, closing your fingers over it. Take your closed hand out into view and say, “I am holding something in my hand. Can you guess what it is?”

The object holder may place his or her hand behind his or her back, and may give clues about what the object is or is not.

The first person who is able to guess correctly what the object is, takes the next turn with an object concealed in his or her hand.

Object of the Game
□ Why must there be a justification for every game? Not every game has to have an object or goal, or has to be organized, monitored, scrutinized, analyzed, criticized, and scored - some games and playing can be allowed to happen just because people want to have fun and foster friendships -  and that’s all!
