Choice
Beauty of rich coloring,
Shades of every hue,
But the very loveliest
Of all shades is blue.
Blue is the color
Of an April sky,
Blue is the twilight
Going softly by.
Blue is lake water
Lapping the shore,
And delicate bluebirds
That flutter and soar.
In blue flame of color
Asters run wild,
And blue - innocently blue -
Are the eyes of a child.

Fun Fact: All human babies have blue eyes at birth. The melanin in a newborn’s eyes often needs some time following birth to be fully in place or to be darkened by exposure to ultraviolet light, eventually revealing a baby’s permanent eye color.
