With useless endeavor
Forever, forever,
Is Sisyphus rolling
His stone up the mountain!
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 - 1882): “The Masque of Pandora” (1875), Part V, ‘The House of Epimetheus,’ ‘Chorus of the Eumenides’

Sisyphus is a character in Greek mythology. He displeased the supernatural mythological beings, and as a result was punished by having to push a boulder up a hill, only to have the boulder roll back down, and so he had to repeat rolling the boulder up the hill again and again . . . only to have it roll back down again and again - apparently forever. The answer to the question, “Are we ever going to make it up this hill?” for Sisyphus is, “No!” Fortunately, you are not Sisyphus. However, if ever you do seem to find yourself in an exercise in futility, or doing something in which progress does not seem to be happening, keep trying and perhaps try changing your try-angle, or approach to the situation, while continuing to work on other things.
