Two Dogs

The dog next door is a stylish dog,
     his pedigree runs a mile.
Our dog is only a pup who shows
his tongue in a cheery smile.

The dog next door has a funny tail,
he carries it like a flag.
Our dog has only a two-inch stub,
but whistle, and see it wag!

The dog next door doesn’t like to play,
     he’s rather afraid of noise.
Our dog is always the friendly sort,
to romp with a crowd of boys.

Our dog’s old collar is frayed and worn,
his leash is a piece of twine.
The stylish dog is the neighbor’s dog,
but our little dog is mine!

Busy

Busy, busy, busy, busy,
     Busy little squirrel -
Running, running, jumping,
     In a dizzy whirl.
Stopping now and then to eat
A tasty little acorn treat -
Busy, busy, busy, busy,
     Busy little squirrel.

Robin

I wonder how
     A robin hears.
Although I’ve never
     Seen his ears;
I’ve seen him stop,
     And cock his head,
And pull a worm
     Right out of bed.

Mrs. Potter, The Otter

Down by the river, there lived an otter,
Who was known as Mrs. Potter.
Every day she looked for eels,
And cooked them for her husband’s meals.

One day he said, “I’m tired of this,
     Can’t you find another dish?”
So off she went and did not stop,
Until she found a sweetie shop.

In she went, and gave her money,
To the man who thought it funny.
“Goodness me! Are you an otter?”
“Yes,” she said, “I’m Mrs. Potter.”

Home she ran with bags of sweets,
To give her husband lots of treats.
He ate them all, and did not stop,
Till he was filled from toe to top.

The Rabbit

Brown bunny sits inside his burrow
     Till everything is still,
Then out he slips along the furrow,
     Or up the grassy hill.

He nibbles all about the bushes,
Or sits to wash his face,
But at a sound he stamps, and rushes
     At a surprising pace.

You see some little streaks and flashes,
A last sharp twink of white,
And down his hidy-hole he dashes
     And disappears from sight.

Lucky Duck

Oh wasn’t it a bit of luck
That I was born a baby duck
With yellow socks and yellow shoes
And I may go wherever I choose?
Quack quack, quack quack,
     Quack quack, quack quack!

I’m A Little Penguin

I’m a little penguin,
     Black and white,
Short and wobbly,
     An adorable sight.

I can’t fly at all,
     But I love to swim,
So I’ll waddle to the water,
     And dive right in!

My Puppy

It’s funny,
     my puppy
          knows just how I feel.

When I’m happy,
     he’s yappy
          and squirms like an eel.

When I’m grumpy,
     he’s slumpy
          and stays by my heel.

It’s funny,
     my puppy
          knows such a great deal.

Wouldn’t It Be Funny

Now, wouldn’t it be funny
If the creatures in the Zoo
Were all let out to walk about
And look at me and you?

And wouldn’t it be funny
If they put us in the cages,
And Kangaroos and Cockatoos
     Came guessing at our ages?

And wouldn’t it be funny
     If the Hip-po-pot-amus
Said, “Don’t go near, I really fear
     They’re very dangerous.”

I’m A Turtle

I’m a little turtle,
     I crawl so slow,
And carry my house

     I pull in my head,
My legs and my tail,
     And go to bed!
