We Have Lived And Loved Together

Picture of a couple silhouetted against an evening sky, while standing in a field and holding hands, and the words, Visit www.MakeFunOfLife.net.
We Have Lived And Loved Together

We have lived and loved together
     Through many changing years;
We have shared each other’s gladness
     And wept each other’s tears;

I have known ne’er a sorrow
     That was long unsoothed by thee;
For thy smiles can make a summer
     Where darkness else would be.

Like the leaves that fall around us
     In autumn’s fading hours,
When the cloud of sorrow looms
     And sadness on us showers;

And though many such we’ve known, love,
     Too prone, alas, to range,
We both can speak of one love
     Which time can never change.

We have lived and loved together
     Through many changing years;
We have shared each other’s gladness
     And wept each other’s tears.

And let us hope the future
     As the past has been will be:
I will share with thee my sorrows,
     And thou thy joys with me.

Our Love Grows

Our love is like a tree that grows
     Still stronger through the years
Nourished by our laughter
     And sometimes by our tears.
It shelters and protects us
     From a dark or sunny sky
And like a tree - its beauty grows
     As each day passes by.

Grains Of Sand: 27 Things To Say To Your Spouse

A healthy marriage is a safe haven where we can relax and recuperate from the tensions of everyday life. We need to hear positive things from our marriage partner. Just as I gathered together some friends to tell me what not to say to a spouse, they also suggested what they would like to hear from a spouse.

“Good Job!”
“You are wonderful.”
“You look gorgeous today.”

“You look handsome today.”
“I appreciate all the things you have done for me.”
“I am glad I married you.”
“If I had to do it over again, I’d still marry you.”
“I missed you today.”
“I will always love you.”
“I love to watch your eyes when you are smiling.”
“I trust you.”
“I can always count on you.”
“You make me feel good.”
“I am so proud to be married to you.”
“I am sorry.”
“I was wrong.”
“What would you like?”
“What is on your mind?”
“Let me just listen.”
“You are so special.”
“I can’t imagine my life apart from you.”
“What can I do to help?”
“I prize every moment we spend together.”
“Thank you for loving me.”
“Thank you for accepting me.”
“Thank you for being my partner.”
“You make each day brighter.”

Happy Anniversary

We had been experiencing financial difficulties, and worry often dampened our normal high spirits. But the gloom was lifted on our wedding anniversary. That day, my husband woke me with a beautiful tray, handed me a single rose and a hand-drawn card with the inscription: “Happy Anniversary, darling! In lieu of a gift, contributions have been made in your name to the electric company, the phone company, and three department stores.”

My Love

When all the flowers have faded
     and fallen fast away,
you’ll find my Love unchanging
     and constant each new day.

When all the leaves have fallen down
     and left the trees so bare,
my Love will still be strong
     and just for you to share.

When snow and cold have filled the air
     and wintertime is here,
my Love will always keep you warm
     and fill your heart with cheer.

The Difference Between Romance And Love

The Difference Between Romance And Love

Romance is fleeting . . . Love is long.
Romance is dancing in the moonlight, gazing deep into desired eyes across a candlelit table . . . Love is saying: “You’re tired, honey, I’ll get up this time” - and stumbling through the darkness to comfort a crying child.
Romance is suspense, anticipation, a surprise . . . Love is dependability.
Romance is tingling excitement . . . Love is tenderness, constancy, being cherished.
Romance is eager striving to appear attractive to each other . . . Love is two people who find beauty in each other no matter how they look.
Romance is flattering attentions . . . Love is genuine thoughtfulness.
Romance feeds on itself and thus is self-consuming . . . Love is heightened and sweetened by romance, but it can survive without it.
Romance is delicious . . . Love nourishes.
Romance is seeking perfection . . . Love is forgiving faults.
Romance is flying . . . Love is safe landing.
Romance is the anguish of waiting for the phone to ring to bring you a voice that will utter endearments . . . Love is the anguish of waiting for a call that will assure you someone else is happy and safe.
Romance can’t last . . . Love can’t help it.

To My Dear And Loving Husband

If ever two were one, then surely we.
     If ever man were loved by wife, than thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,

     Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold,

     Or all the riches that the East doth hold.

My love is such that rivers cannot quench,

     Nor aught by love from thee give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way reply;

     The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let’s so persevere,

     That when we live no more we may live ever.

A Wedding Prayer

Today is the beginning.
     In the years that lie ahead
,
May you always share the love you have
     This day as you are wed.

I pray you’ll each be one on whom
     The other can depend,
And may you share not only love,
     But be each other’s friend.

Some hopes may not be realized,
     Some dreams may not come true,
But many of them will, I know,
     To bless the two of you.

Within the home that you will have,
     I pray you’ll always find
Contentment, joy, security,
     Good health, and peace of mind.

Being In Love For The Rest Of Your Life

Marriage Means Being In Love For The Rest Of Your Life

Marriage is love walking hand in hand together. It’s laughing with each other about silly little things, and learning to discuss big things with care and tenderness. In marriage, love is trusting each other when you’re apart. It’s getting over disappointments and hurts, knowing that these are present in all relationships. It is the realization that there is no one else in this world that you’d rather be with than the one you’re married to. It’s thinking of new things to do together; it’s growing old together.

Marriage is being in love for the rest of your life.

Picture
A Dozen Christmas Roses

One rose for the times we’ve shared and the memories we’ve made
One rose for being someone I can trust
One rose for accepting me as I am
One rose for forgiving me the mistakes I’ve made
One rose for taking the time to listen even when you don’t understand or agree
One rose for being there when I need you
One rose for letting me be there when you need someone
One rose for the hopes and dreams and feelings you share
One rose for your actions that speak louder than words
One rose for knowing when to speak and when to offer silence
One rose for your smile that brings joy into my world
And one rose for being one of life’s most beautiful gifts
Twelve roses because you are important to me and I love you.

Christmas roses are scientifically named Helleborus niger. Despite the similarity in name to domestic garden roses, they are a different species. Although they can be visually appealing, some varieties of Christmas roses should not be touched or ingested because they are poisonous to humans and animals, including pets, livestock, and wild animals.

On Your Wedding Day

Today is the day you will always remember,
     The greatest in anyone’s life,
You’ll start off the day just two people in love,
     And end it as husband and wife.

It’s a brand new beginning, the start of a journey,
     With moments to cherish and treasure,
And although there’ll be times when you both disagree,
     These will surely be outweighed by pleasure.

You’ll have heard many words of advice in the past,
     When the secrets of marriage were spoken,
But you know that the answers lie hidden inside,
     Where the bond of true love lies unbroken.

So live happy forever as lovers and friends,
     It’s the dawn of a new life for you,
As you stand there together with love in your eyes,
     From the moment you whisper “I do.”

And with luck, all your hopes and your dreams can be real,,
     May success find its way to your hearts,
Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys,
     But today is the day it all starts.

Life Is To Share

A silver tea set, shining bright,
     Romantic in the candle light.
Appliances costly, copper and brass,
     Clothes of linen, china and glass.
These are gifts, lovely and rare,
     Showered on the bridal pair.

But I would give with all wedding bands,
     The joy of laboring with loving hands.
The pleasure that comes with painting a chair,
     And the love that grows with the chores we share.
If I had my way, I’d make it a law,
     Each bride gets a paintbrush, each groom a saw!

Marriage Joins Two People

Picture of a bride and groom standing on the green grassy edge of a lake, and the words, ‘Visit www.MakeFunOfLife.net.’
Marriage Joins Two People In The Circle Of Its Love

Marriage is a commitment to life, the best that two people can find and bring out in each other. It offers opportunities for sharing and growth that no other relationship can equal. It is a physical and an emotional joining that is promised for a lifetime.

Within the circle of its love, marriage encompasses all of life’s most important relationships. A wife and a husband are each other’s best friend, confidant, lover, teacher, listener, and critic. And there may come times when one partner is heartbroken or ailing, and the love of the other may resemble the tender caring of a parent for a child.

Marriage deepens and enriches every facet of life. Happiness is fuller, memories are fresher, commitment is stronger, even anger is felt more strongly, and passes away more quickly.

Marriage understands and forgives the mistakes life is unable to avoid. It encourages and nurtures new life, new experiences, and new ways of expressing a love that is deeper than life.

When two people pledge their love and care for each other in marriage, they create a spirit unique unto themselves which binds them closer than any spoken or written words. Marriage is a promise, a potential made in the hearts of two people who love each other and takes a lifetime to fulfil.

This day I married my best friend,
     The one I laugh with as we share life’s wondrous zest,
As we find new enjoyments and experience all that’s best -
     The one I live for because the world seems brighter,
As our happy times are better and our burdens feel much lighter.
     The one I love with every fiber of my soul -
We used to feel vaguely incomplete, now together we are whole.

I’d Marry You Again

With tiny tears that glistened, my eyes were fixed on you.
And thinking of the life we’d share, we softly said “I do.”

Our hearts were knit together from the time that we first met,
And memories were gathered, that we never will forget.

While daily living life with you, you saw the real me,
And still you chose acceptance, a lifelong mystery.

With many happy days gone by, and others when we cried,
Some days we’d share so endlessly, while other days we’d hide.

With all the ups and downs we’ve had, in learning to be friends,
I know that in this heart of mine, I’d marry you again.

Katie Lee And Willie Gray

Picture of a happy smiling wedding couple standing outside in a wooded area, with the bride holding a bouquet of flowers, the groom kissing the bride’s forehead, and the words, ‘Visit www.MakeFunOfLife.net.’
Katie Lee And Willie Gray

Two brown heads with tossing curls,
     Red lips shutting over pearls,
Bare feet white and wet with dew,
     Two eyes black and two eyes blue;
Little boy and girl were they,
     Katie Lee and Willie Gray.

They were standing where a brook,
     Bending like a shepherd’s crook,
Flashed silver, and thick ranks
     Of green willow fringed the banks;
Half in thought and half in play,
     Katie Lee and Willie Gray.

They had cheeks like cherries red;
     He was taller ’most a head;
She, with arms like wreaths of snow,
     Swung a basket to and fro,
As she loitered, half in play,
     Chattering to Willie Gray.

“Pretty Katie,” Willie said;
     And there came a dash of red
Through the brownness of his cheek
      “Boys are strong and girls are weak,”
And I’ll carry, so I will,
     Katie’s basket up the hill.”

Katie answered, with a laugh,
      “You shall carry only half;”
And then, tossing back her curls,
      “Boys are weak as well as girls.”
Do you think that Katie guessed,
     Half the wisdom she expressed!

Men are only boys grown tall,
     Hearts don’t change much after all;
And when, long years from that day,
     Katie Lee and Willie Gray,
Stood again beside the brook,
     Bending like a shepherd’s crook.

Is it strange that Willie said
,
     While again a dash of red,
Crossed the brownness of his cheek
,
      “I am strong and you are weak;
Life is but a slippery steep,
     Hung with shadows cold and deep;

“Will you trust me, Katie dear!
     Walk beside me without fear;
May I carry if I will,
     All your burdens up the hill!”
And she answered with a laugh,
      “No, but you may carry half.”

Close beside the little brook,
     Bending like a shepherd’s crook,
Washing with its silver hands,
     Late and early at the sand,
Is a cottage, where, to day,
     Katie lives with Willie Gray.

In a porch she sits and lo!
     Swings a basket to and fro,
Vastly different from the one
     That she swung in years agone;
This is long, and deep, and wide,
     And has rockers at the side!

Wedding Vow

Picture of a happy smiling groom and a happy smiling bride on their wedding day, standing outside holding hands under an umbrella, and the words, ‘Visit www.MakeFunOfLife.net.’
Wedding Vow

I vow to honor the commitment made this day
Which, unlike the flowers and the cake,
Will not wither or decay. A promise, not to obey
But to respond joyfully, to forgive and to console,
For once incomplete, we now are whole.

I vow to bear in mind that if, at times
Things seem to go from bad to worse,
They also go from bad to better.
The lost purse is handed in, the letter
Contains wonderful news. Trains run on time,
Hurricanes run out of breath, floods subside,
And toast lands jam-side up.

And with this ring, my final vow:
To recall, whatever the future may bring,
The love I feel for you now.
