“One of the hardest lessons to learn in life is that good people deserve second chances, but bad people must not be given second chances by us, because they will continue to do wrong and harm others. We really do need to know people’s history and the character they have displayed throughout their lifetimes, evaluate them, and treat them accordingly. People exist who leave a trail of wreckage as they go from person to person and place to place, their whole lives long, and commonly these people express the mantra, ‘But I have changed, but I can change, but I will change,’ yet they change only for a moment, and then they soon change right back again into the destructive pattern which is at the permanent core of their personalities. Giving second chances to bad people will produce bad results and will cause the lives of innocent people to be ruined. Don’t let them ruin you, don’t do it for them, and don't forget that you need to keep your life free from destruction by others. Some people we have to leave alone to find their own way in life, and if they ever tire of themselves, they can find someone else with the willingness, the means, and the know-how to guide them into becoming disciplined, morally upright persons; still, it is more likely that they will go on to the end of their days as wreckers, and we will separate ourselves from them in all ways if we are wise.” -David Hugh Beaumont (born 1966)

New Beginnings
It’s only the beginning now
. . . a pathway yet unknown
At times the sound of other steps
. . . sometimes we walk alone.
The best beginnings of our lives
May sometimes end in sorrow
But even on our darkest days
The Sun will shine tomorrow.
So we must do our very best
Whatever life may bring
And look beyond the Winter chill
To smell the breath of Spring.
Into each life will always come
A time to start anew
A new beginning for each heart
As fresh as morning dew.
Although the cares of life are great
And hands are bowed so low
The storms of life will leave behind
The wonder of a rainbow.
The years will never take away
Our chance to start anew
It’s only the beginning now
So dreams can still come true.

“If you have found yourself thinking, ‘I have tried so many times in so many places with so many different people in so many different ways, and here I am again - will I make it this time?’ know that your success will be as a result of your having attained the strength of mind and of will and applying everything you have learned along the way up to this point and every new discovery you can grab onto, that this is all about your ability to endure and persist, and that you will find or reach that point at which you can make it. You will arrive at your place and your time and you will soar to unimagined heights.” -David Hugh Beaumont (born 1966)
A New Chance
When doubts and fears are growing,
It’s hard to keep on going
From day to day not knowing
Just what the end will be.
Take each day as you find it,
If things go wrong, don’t mind it,
For each day leaves behind it
A chance to start anew.

“Then Peter came and said to him, ‘Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I ought to still forgive him? As many as seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.’” -Author Unknown: as quoted in “The Bible,” ‘Gospel of Matthew,’ chapter 18, verse 22
By way of further explanation, Peter desired to go beyond what the religious leaders of the time and place did, for they would only forgive a person as many as three times. Peter thought he could do more, so he asked Jesus if he ought to forgive his brother, “as many as seven times.” Jesus replied, “seventy times seven,” meaning we are to forgive our brothers and sisters in Christ as often as they need to be forgiven. Second chances are not something we seek for ourselves alone, but which we also are to give lovingly to others.
