Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
     How I wonder what you are,
Up above the world so high,
     Like a diamond in the sky.
 
When the blazing sun is set,
     When the grass with dew is wet,
Then you show your little light,
     Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.
 
Then the traveler in the dark,
     Thanks you for your tiny spark;
He could not see which way to go
     If you did not twinkle so.
 
In the dark blue sky you keep,
     And often through my curtains peep,
For you never shut your eye
     Till the sun is in the sky.
 
As your bright and shiny spark,
     Lights the traveler in the dark,
Though I know not what you are,
     Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

Jane Taylor was born on 23 September 1783 in London, England, as one among an extensive literary family. She became an essayist, a playwright, a short story writer, a novelist, and a poet. Jane Taylor worked as an editor and writer for “Youth’s Magazine.” She is known as the author of the song, “The Star,” also known as, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” (1806) and the poem, “The Violet,” among other works. Jane Taylor passed on at 40 years of age on 13 April 1824.
