A Little Groundhog’s Song
 
Down in my burrow, down so deep,
     At last I’m awake from a cold winter sleep!
I’m a little groundhog, and it’s my day,
     To rise and stretch and go out to play!
 
I grumble, scratch, grunt, and yawn,
     And eat my breakfast on your front lawn!
I’m a little groundhog and it’s my day,
     To rise and stretch and go out to play!

    Groundhog Day is observed on February 2nd of each year by Americans. By the holiday tradition, if the groundhog peers out of its burrow, sees its shadow, and then ducks back into its burrow and returns to sleep, Winter will last for six more weeks. However, if the groundhog does not see its shadow and comes out of its burrow, then Spring will arrive early.
