1809. He was born in the cold of winter, on 12 February of that year.
1816. At 7 years of age, his family was forced out of their home. He had to work to help support them.
1818. At 9 years of age, his mother died.
1831. At 22 years of age, he failed in business.
1832. At 23 years of age, he ran for state legislature and was defeated. He then lost his job. He also wanted to go to law school but could not get in.
1833. At 24 years of age, he borrowed money from a friend to start a business, but by the end of the year, he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off the debt.
1834. At 25 years of age, he ran for state legislature, and this time won.
1835. At 26 years of age, he was engaged to be married, but his sweetheart died, and his heart was broken.
1836. At 27 years of age, he suffered a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.
1838. At 29 years of age, he sought to become speaker of the state legislature and was defeated.
1840. At 31 years of age, he sought to become elector and was defeated.
1843. At 34 years of age, he ran for the United States Congress and was defeated.
1846. At 37 years of age, he ran for Congress again, and won, went to Washington, and did a good job.
1848. At 39 years of age, he ran for re-election to Congress and was defeated.
1849. At 40 years of age, he sought the job of land officer in his home state and was rejected.
1854. At 46 years of age, he ran for the Senate of the United States and lost.
1856. At 47 years of age, he sought the Vice President nomination at his party’s national convention, but got less than 100 votes and lost.
1858. At 49 years of age, he ran for the Senate and lost.
1860. At 51 years of age, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States of America.
